Kayangwe Hails Enterprise Cup Return as Ugandan Clubs Prepare for Regional Rugby Battle
By Grace Joyce Kemigisa
The President of Uganda Rugby Union and Vice President of Uganda Olympic Committee / Commonwealth Games Uganda, Godwin Kayangwe Arinaitwe, has welcomed the revival of the historic Enterprise Cup, describing it as a major boost for club rugby development across East Africa. He noted that the competition will sharpen the skills of local players, create opportunities for emerging talent to compete at a higher level, and further strengthen the long-standing sporting ties between Uganda and Kenya.
Four of Uganda’s top rugby clubs are set to carry the nation’s flag when the revived Enterprise Cup kicks off on March 21, 2026, marking a renewed chapter in the historic cross-border rivalry between the two nations. The competition brings together leading clubs from both countries in a battle for regional supremacy.
The Uganda Rugby Union has confirmed that Stanbic Black Pirates, Platinum Credit Heathens, KCB KOBs, and Toyota Buffaloes will represent Uganda in the prestigious tournament. The quartet qualified after finishing among the top four teams in the 2025 Uganda Cup, with the Black Pirates emerging as champions ahead of Heathens, KOBs, and Buffaloes.
The tournament will feature eight clubs from the region, pitting Uganda’s representatives against four Kenyan sides: KCB Rugby, Kabras Sugar Rugby Club, Menengai Oilers, and Nondescripts Rugby Football Club. The opening round will be played as cross-border quarterfinals, with two Ugandan teams travelling to Kenya while two Kenyan sides compete in Uganda.
In the Ugandan leg of the quarterfinals, Stanbic Black Pirates will face KCB Rugby, while Platinum Credit Heathens take on Kabras Sugar in what promises to be a thrilling clash of regional heavyweights. Meanwhile in Kenya, Menengai Oilers will host Toyota Buffaloes as Nondescripts welcome KCB KOBs in equally competitive encounters.
Beyond the fierce on-field battles, the tournament is expected to rekindle the passionate rugby culture shared by the two nations. The winning teams from the quarterfinals will progress to the semi-finals scheduled for April 11, before the competition culminates in the final on May 30, where East Africa’s top club will be crowned. For Ugandan rugby fans, the return of the Enterprise Cup offers a chance to rally behind their clubs as they aim to assert dominance in one of the region’s most celebrated club competitions.
