Buweekula Ssaza triumphant in 2025 Buganda Masaza football championship
2025 Buganda Masaza Football Championship:
• Final: Buweekula 1-0 Ssingo
• Bronze medal match: Kyaggwe 1-0 Bugerere
Individual Awards:
• MVP: Jimmy Kalema (Buweekula)
• Top scorer: Jimmy Kalema (Buweekula) – 7 Goals
• Best Goalkeeper: Joel Byamukama (Ssingo)
After years of soul searching, Buweekula Ssaza emerged victorious in the 2025 Buganda Masaza football competition at the Hamz stadium (Nakivubo war memorial grounds).
Having lost the previous two cup finals (to Ssingo and Mawokota), Buweekula eventually rose to the occasion, overcoming two time champions Ssingo in an explosive clash.
Alex Taremwa’s goal on the opening quarter hour mark was the all decisive strike that enabled the Mubende district based entity emerge top before thousands of spectators with the King, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II also in attendance.
The champion’s Jimmy Kalema emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament and top scorer with 7 goals to his name.
Ssingo’s goalkeeper Joel Byamukama was named as the most outstanding goalkeeper of the tournament.
“This was a well calculated victory. We worked hard from the first game to the final. Special appreciation to the team members, management and players” Felix Kawooya Ssekabuuza, the head coach of Buweekula remarked.
This tournament is organized by Buganda Kingdom, played by players of all tribes but is a reserve those who have not yet played the first (UPL) and second tier division (in FUFA Big League) and have also not featured for the senior national team,the Cranes.
Buweekula joins the cluster of champions who include 5-time record winners Gomba, Mawokota, Buddu, Bulemeezi, Ssingo, Busiro and Buluuli.
