Running for Equality: International Women’s Day Run 2026 Set for 7th March
By Grace Joyce Kemigisa
On Saturday, 7th March 2026, the spirit of unity, resilience, and empowerment will take centre stage at the Lugogo Sports Complex as Uganda Athletics, in partnership with the Uganda Olympic Committee, hosts the International Women’s Day Run 2026.
Held in celebration of International Women’s Day, this special event is more than just a race it is a powerful movement aimed at promoting gender equality and strengthening awareness within our communities.
The 2026 International Women’s Day theme, To Give To Gain, highlights the power of reciprocity, collaboration, and generosity to advance gender equality.
It calls on individuals, organizations, and communities to move beyond conversation and into tangible, measurable progress. While significant strides have been made toward empowering women and girls, persistent challenges remain from unequal access to education and employment opportunities to gender-based violence and underrepresentation in leadership.
This year’s theme emphasizes urgency. It reminds us that equality is not a distant aspiration; it is a shared responsibility that demands action today.
The International Women’s Day Run 2026 embodies this call-to-action transforming awareness into movement, literally and symbolically.
Sport has long been a unifying force breaking barriers, building confidence, and inspiring communities. By organizing this run, Uganda Athletics and the Uganda Olympic Committee are using athletics as a platform to:
Celebrate the achievements of women in sports and society
· Advocate for equal opportunities for women and girls
· Encourage inclusive participation across all genders
· Foster community dialogue around equality and empowerment
The run sends a clear message: gender equality is not a women’s issue alone it is a community issue. When women thrive, families thrive. When families thrive, communities prosper.
