Mixed fortunes for Ugandan boxers at 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games

On the eve of the boxing competition at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh city, Saudi Arabia, the Ugandan camp was hit by disturbing news about the disqualification of their female boxers.
The sad development arose after the news filtered through that the two female boxers Fatuma Nabikolo and Angel Katushabe will not compete since they had not conducted the mandatory Gender Eligibility Tests.
Such tests are now a prerequisite by World Boxing before the competition kicks off.
“We are sad that our female boxers shall not compete despite preparing well. There was a miscommunication between our bosses at the global stage and the local federation. However, we have the two male players ready to battle” Samuel Kabugo, Uganda’s head coach revealed.
Meanwhile, the technical meeting was executed on Wednesday evening and the draws held thereafter.
Uganda’s Alfred Ojok, playing in the 80Kg category got a bye at the first round and will now face Iranian Mohammad Nourani at the quarter final stage.
The winner between Ojok and Nourani will face the victor between Osmanli (Turkey) and Afghanistan’s Gulzad or Egyptian Elsharkawi F.
In the 60 Kg category; Uganda’s Jimmy Adriko commences his medal quest at the quarter final stage with a bout against Azebezian’s Gasimzada M.
The boxing contests commence on Thursday, 6th November 2025.
