Uganda’s preparations for two major international games are in high gear, with athlete selections ongoing and training intensifying. Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport and the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) addressed the media today on the upcoming events.
Dr. Rukare confirmed Uganda’s participation in the 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal with 12 athletes set to compete from October 31 to November 13, 2026. The team will compete in six disciplines. Athletics (4) Table Tennis(3) Swimming (2) Cycling – Road(1) Badminton(1) Rowing (1).
For the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, set for July 23 to August 2, 2026, Uganda will field a 53-athlete contingent across 10 disciplines. Athletics(16) Netball(12) Boxing(6) 3×3 Basketball(4) Swimming (4) Weightlifting (3) Para Powerlifting (3) Para Swimming (2) Judo (2) Track Cycling (1)
Olympic Day Tooke Run to Fuel Both Campaigns.
The Uganda Olympic Committee(UOC) in partnership with the Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre (BIRDC) through Tooke will host the Olympic Day Tooke Run on 20th June 2026 in Bushenyi. The theme of this run is Move, Learn, Discover with Nutrition-Care .We move through sport, health and community engagement. We learn by embracing the science of nutrition and the innovation behind TOOKE products. And we discover the power of Uganda’s own resources to fuel athletes, nurture children and strengthen communities
