Amdavad, India Confirmed as Host of the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games.
“A New Era for Commonwealth Sport”
The Commonwealth Sport Movement has officially confirmed Amdavad (Ahmedabad), India, as the host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games, marking a historic milestone for the world’s most populous nation and the global sporting community. The announcement was ratified by delegates of all 74 Commonwealth member nations and territories during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly held in Glasgow.
This landmark decision ushers in what leaders of Commonwealth Sport describe as a “new golden era” one that will shape the next century of the Games while reinforcing unity, diversity, and athletic excellence across the Commonwealth.
India’s successful bid showcased an ambitious yet practical vision centred in the vibrant city of Amdavad in the state of Gujarat. Building on the foundations being laid by the upcoming Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Amdavad promises a celebration of scale, culture, innovation, and athletic excellence.
Moments after the announcement, the General Assembly Hall in Glasgow erupted into colour and rhythm as 20 Garba dancers and 30 Indian dhol drummers delivered a spectacular cultural performance representing India’s heritage offering a glimpse of what athletes and fans can expect in 2030.
Dr Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, stated:
“This is the start of a new golden era for Commonwealth Sport. After a Games reset, we head to Glasgow 2026 in fantastic shape before setting our sights on Amdavad 2030 for a special Centenary edition. India brings scale, youth, ambition, rich culture, enormous sporting passion and relevance.”
Dr PT Usha, President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, emphasized India’s deep honour and responsibility:
“The 2030 Games will not only celebrate a hundred years of the Commonwealth Movement but also lay the foundation for the next century. It will bring together athletes, communities, and cultures from across the Commonwealth in a spirit of friendship and progress.”
India’s hosting of the 2030 Games aligns with the country’s broader national vision under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to position India as a global powerhouse by 2047—100 years after its independence.
