Victoria Pearls pulverized by UAE and Thailand, register back-to-back loses
By Grace Kemigisa
Match day four and five at the ongoing ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand, have been days to forget in the Victoria pearls’ camp, the team suffering two of the worst outings so far.
The pearls on the 25th of Nov 2025 crumbled against United Arab Emirates Women in their fourth game of the tourney losing by 10 wickets; and their encounter against the hosts Thailand on the 26th of Nov 2025, Uganda looked even more feeble than they were in the previous game, losing by 8 wickets.
Game 4
Coming from a 4 runs victory in their previous game against PNG-W, there were high hopes that the pearls could build on that success to keep the winning momentum going. However, as the Ugandans say, “kyabbe kilalamu ku ground” meaning it was a different story all together on the ground; the hope was just hope.
The Victoria Pearls set a score of 75 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs after they lost the toss and were elected to bat first, at the Asian Institute of Technology Ground, Bangkok Thailand. United Arab Emirates spinners Vaishnave Mahesh 3/21, Heena Hotchandani 2/10 and Esha Oza 1/11 took the day against Uganda’s batting power as they limited the batters to low scores throughout the innings. The only batters getting doubles were Janet Mbabazi 16(26), Kevin Awino 13(30) and Proscovia Alako 12(18); Uganda putting on 75/8 in their 20 overs.
In the defense, it was another nightmare for the Ugandan ladies as all the six bowlers Kevin Amuge, Consy Aweko, Immaculate Nakisuuyi, Malisa Ariokot, Sarah Akiteng and Janet Mbabazi failed to get a breakthrough allowing seasoned batters Esha Oza (c) not out 48(30) and Theertha Satish (wk) not out 22(20) close off the game in 8.2 overs scoring 76 runs for no loss with 70 balls to spare; United Arab Emirates beating Uganda by 10 wickets.
Game 5
In their encounter against the hosts Thailand, yet again Uganda lost the toss to Thailand and were elected to bat first at the Asian Institute of Technology Ground, Bangkok; the pearls only managing to set a score of 55 runs before they were bowled out in the 19,3 over.
The batting order struggled from the onset all 4 falling in the powerplay; from Mbabazi’s run out to Nakisuyi’s Lbw, Awino and Illoku’s wickets it was all doom.
Musamali batting at 5 and Nampiina at 6, stayed longer on the crease but it was only Nampiina who made a difference scoring 23 runs off 43 balls; and when she fell it was game down as all the other batters were bowled out quickly one after the other, Uganda only managing to reach 55 runs in 19.3 overs. Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong collecting a fiver 5/6 and Sunida Chaturongrattana a brace 2/16.
In the second innings, Uganda was tasked with defending its low total, a task that was an absolute toll order for the 3 bowlers who were facing the seasoned Thailand batters. Concy Aweko 1/21 and Immaculate Nakisuuyi 1/28 collected a wicket each, but their efforts were not enough to stop Nattaya Boochatham 24(26) and Nannapat Koncharoenkai (wk) not out 28(23) from dashing to the required total in only 9 overs scoring 58 runs for 2 wickets. Thailand beating Uganda by 8 wickets.
The two losses, make it 4 losses for pearls now and leaves Uganda siting 2nd last on the 8-team table with 1 win, 4 losses, 2 pts and -1. 574 net run rate.
With two games to go, Uganda’s chances of finishing among the top 4 teams, to progress to the next league are really slim if not zero.
The Victoria pearls are back in action on the 28th Nov 2025 against neighbors Tanzania at 5:30am EAT and will conclude their campaign against Netherlands on the 30th Nov 2025 still at 5:30am EAT.
