The Uganda Table Tennis national team is quickly adapting to the hot weather conditions and food in Riyadh city of Saudi Arabia prior to the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games.
The first batch of five Jemimah Nakawala, Judith Parvin Nangonzi, 11-year-old World Champion Joseph Francis Sebatindira, Joshua Magaya and Jonathan Ssenyonga arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday.
This crop of young players held their first training session on the Tables on Thursday at the Riyadh University Students Recreation and Sports Center.
They will be joined by their head coach Alvin Katumba, traveling alongside seed three Judith Mirembe, who recently wrote her Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) at Mbogo Junior School.
Team captain Jonathan Ssenyonga is confident about his team ahead of their matches over the weekend.
Ssenyonga has also commented about the quick acclimatization to the hot weather conditions in Riyadh as well as the swift adjustment to the food types in Saudi Arabia.
On Friday morning, they are again expected to train again prior to the Games’ official opening ceremony in Riyadh city.
Besides Table Tennis, Uganda has a big representation in the discipline of Aquatics, Wrestling, Athletics, Boxing, Weightlifting and Para-Powerlifting.
Since inception of the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2005 (Mecca, Saudi Arabia), Uganda has been part and parcel of these games with a total accumulation of 11 medals in 5 editions.
