RFUEA Grounds, Nairobi – The Uganda Lady Cranes claimed the bronze medal at the Africa Women’s Sevens tournament in Kenya, defeating Madagascar 38-12 in the third-place playoff.
The team’s journey to the podium was marked by impressive performances, including a 50-0 thrashing of Burkina Faso and a 20-14 win over Zambia in the group stages. They also dispatched Tunisia 31-12 in the quarterfinals, before falling short against Kenya Lionesses 10-17 in the semifinals.

Speaking to the media after the match, Lady Cranes head coach Charles Onen praised his team’s efforts, saying, “For me, the tournament has been a good one despite the fact that we lost one game at a very crucial moment in the dying minutes. The girls put out the best they could for the weekend, but the weekend brings the results that we have at the moment.”

Despite securing bronze, Uganda narrowly missed out on qualifying for the HSBC SVNS Div 3, a slot that went to finalists South Africa.

Uganda’s Lydia Namabiro shone brightly throughout the tournament, earning the top try scorer award with an impressive 7 tries.
