Uganda Cubs eject Senegal to reach Round of 16 at U-17 2025 FIFA World Cup
By David Isabirye
Uganda U17 Boys National Football Team (Cubs) eliminated Senegal 1-0 from the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup at the Aspire Zone, Pitch 7 in Qatar. The Cubs scored their lone goal through Abubakali Walusimbi on the quarter hour mark.
Cubs head coach Brian Ssenyondo made no changes in the team that had played against France, with Arafat Nkoola, Richard Okello and James Bogere starting up front. Okello came close towards the end of the first half but missed from close range. Senegal thought they had earned a penalty towards the closing stages when Bakary Sonko went down in the box, but it was overruled after a VAR review. Two minutes to the end of normal time, Senegal had the ball into the back of the net, but this was equally ruled out, this time for offside.
At the round of 16,Uganda now plays Burkina Faso that ejected Germany by a solitary goal.
