History Beckons As Uganda Clubs Ready For Historic First Ever World Cup

In a little over 24 hours, Uganda’s under 17 national football team,the Cubs will write another page in Uganda’s history with a first ever football World Cup appearance when they face Canada this Wednesday at 6.45pm (EAT) in their opening group K game at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.
The Cubs are in group K alongside France and Chile at this expanded FIFA U-17 World Cup of 48 teams.
Uganda head coach Brian Ssenyondo has an array of talented youngsters at his disposal that are led by the mercurial striker James Bogere from whom a lot is expected.
The team has played three friendly games and drew 1-all with Venezuela before a 2-1 and 3-2 loss to Panama and Paraguay respectively.
Coach Brian Ssenyondo has previously talked to us with optimism.
“Being there is good enough.Whoever touches the match day ball first against Canada will pride in that all his years.Getting results will be monumental.But only God knows,because it’s him that has carried us this far”.
Ssenyondo named 21 players for his final squad including Adrian Mukwanga,Mukisa Jovan Nsereko,Oyirwoth Steven,Magala Isima,Okello Richard,Magogo Shakur Lucky Baggio,Nkoola Arafat,Bagenda Enock,Ntege Abdul Lukenge and Torach Elvis.
After Canada,Uganda will face Chile on Saturday before playing France in the final group game on Tuesday next week.
The FIFA U-17 football World Cup has officially kicked off today with several games including Costa Rica’s 1-all draw with United Arab Emirates, South Africa beat Bolivia 3-1,Senegal and Croatia was scoreless while Japan has shocked Morocco 2-0.
