Dakar 2026 Flame Tour Brings Olympic Spirit to Gayaza
GAYAZA, UGANDA — 12 September 2026: The spirit of the Youth Olympic Games came alive in Gayaza as the Dakar 2026 Flame Tour made its stop at Green Valley Primary School, Magigye, bringing together children and the local community through sport, play and cultural activities.
Held under the theme “We Run for Africa,” the activity formed part of Uganda’s participation in the journey towards the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, as communities across the country join the wider celebration of the Olympic spirit.
The event featured a range of traditional and recreational games designed to encourage participation, interaction and enjoyment among the children. Activities included rope skipping, dancing, races, bottle filling and bottle racing, Ludo, Mweso, among others.
The activities provided an opportunity for young people to experience the values of sport beyond competition, while celebrating friendship, respect, unity and togetherness, values at the heart of the Olympic Movement.
The activity was implemented by the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) Olympic Values Education and Culture Commission, which continues to use sport and Olympic education to engage young people and communities and promote the values of the Olympic Movement.
The Dakar 2026 Flame Tour is part of the build-up to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which will mark a historic moment as the first Olympic event to be held on African soil.
For Uganda, the Flame Tour is not only a celebration of the Games but also an opportunity to inspire young people to embrace sport, live the Olympic values and see themselves as part of Africa’s growing sporting story.
From Gayaza to Dakar, the message is clear:
