Gazelles
Team Uganda has bagged a second Silver medal of the Games, as the Gazelles settled for second following a 21-11 loss to Australia in the women’s 3×3 basketball competition.
Uganda’s first medal, Silver too, had come from para-swimmer Husnah Kukundakwe two days earlier.
Melissa Akullu, Jane Asinde, Jamila Nansikombi and Perus Nyamwenge have won over hearts at the Scottish Events Centre with gutsy and stylish performances, but that combo came up just short against the much bigger and better shooting Australia, who had also won the group encounter involving the two earlier.
The Gazelles still made history though in this sporting discipline’s second Commonwealth Games appearance. Among their many victims were Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Kenya, Tonga and New Zealand, for a well earned Silver that is the first ever for a team sport at the Games.

The basketball 3×3 team will share the instant 50m/- that Ministry of education and sports and national council of sports pledged, with a 3m/- monthly stipend also in line till the next games.
