Batte bows out gallantly as Aziz Abdul promises fireworks.

Batte Nuhu’s journey at the 2026 Commonwealth Games has ended following a points’ decision loss to Englishman Patris Mughalzai at the Scottish events Centre.
But Batte will leave with his head held high after winning two bouts at the Games, with his first over Nigerian Wahabu Abdul at the round of 32 that he followed with a round of 16 ejection of Indian Yadav Pratap.
Uganda’s first lady to enter the boxing fray Emily Nakalema also lost on points against Australian Bryson Eve.
“I tried all my best but unfortunately couldn’t secure progression” she said.
Amidst all the boxers that have taken part in the 2026 Commonwealth Games, none has generated public interest like Aziz Abdul aka Ringo who is the grandson to former Ugandan President Idi Amin Dada.
“Ba ssebo, when is Aziz fighting, temubanga mwamujeko” wrote Billy Kiggundu a football goal keeper Coach on one of his social media platforms wondering when Ringo enters the ring.
And finally, the time is now with the eagerly anticipated super heavy weight quarter final between Englishman Damar Thomas on tonight.
“Yeah, i have waited a long time for this and i am happy that my time has come. I promise to give it my best, for God and my country” Ringo said.
Aziz’s journey in boxing is often mirrored in the history of his grandfather, himself a former boxer and widely renowned for once saying that “I want to tell the boxers that the only way to defeat any opponent or against a country is to win by knockout”
Also in action tonight is Angel Katushabe in a flyweight 51kgs bout against England’s Ruby White.
