Commonwealth Sport President Dr. Donald Rukare attended the reveal of the prize medal for the Glasgow2026 Commonwealth Games that are scheduled for July 23rd to August 2nd, 2026.
The event was presided over by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, who is the vice patron of Commonwealth Sport.
A world-first inclusive design by Militsa Milenkova, award-winning artist in residence at The Glasgow School of Art, the medal is inspired by the city’s iconic landmarks and coat of arms.
Bold in design and rooted in Glasgow’s story, it features braille and tactile elements which are a meaningful commitment to inclusion.
Following a reduction in scope from original plans, the event will feature 10 sports held across four venues within the city of Glasgow, with a focus on sustainability.
Uganda is set to be represented in the nine sports of athletics, 3×3 basketball, boxing, track cycling, netball, swimming, para swimming, judo, and para powerlifting.
Weightlifting is still pending final qualification and confirmation is expected by the end of May 2026.
A few weeks ago,the Commonwealth Games Chef de Mission, Godwin Kayangwe, met with heads of federations to assess preparations.
He stressed the need for all stakeholders to align and work together as Team Uganda, while urging federations to review the readiness of their athletes and support systems.
He also called on federations to confirm any eligibility requirements with their respective international federations in order to avoid any disappointments.
