The expedition for Uganda’s first ever football team at a FIFA organized football final tournament continues in Qatar when the national U-17 team (The Cubs) lock horns with African giants Senegal on Saturday, 15th November 2025 during the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
This is a round of 32 contest following the successful completion of the group phase earlier in the week.
Uganda completed their group K matches with a 1-0 victory over Europeans France.
The Cubs had opened up their campaign with a 1-2 slip to Canada in a match they led for over 80 minutes before a late succumb.
The second duel was a spirited 1-all draw with South Americans, Chile.
Against Senegal, the Uganda Cubs face a tried and tested party best known for their physicality and technical prowess.
Led by the ‘Historical’ Brian Ssenyondo, Uganda Cubs are never timid and will fight to the last minute.
“We are determined to give the best shot. The boys (players) are ready for the task in their midst” Ssenyondo attested.
Uganda Cubs is expected to once against start Edrisah Waibi in between the goal posts ahead of Gilbert Mazige who commanded the starting slot against Canada in the opener.
Lethal goal poacher James Bogere, midfield gem Isima Mulala Magala, the industrious trio of skipper Richard Okello, Abubakali Walusimbi and Steven Oyirwoth among others are all expected to raise to the occasion.
At stake is a slot at the round of 16 against either Germany or Burkina Faso.
