Baskaline shines for Uganda with silver as Uganda takes its tally at the African Youth Games to four
Uganda’s medal charge at the Fourth African Youth Games in Angola gained fresh momentum after Baskaline Cherotwo clinched silver in the women’s 1,500 metres final that she finished in 4:28.26
Cherotwo’s composed and powerful run secured her place on the podium, adding another highlight to Uganda’s growing success at the continental event.
Her medal takes Uganda’s total to four following bronze medal wins by table tennis youngsters Joseph Sebatindira and Jemimah Nakawala in the singles category and the athletics bronze from Keren Chelimo in the 3000m.
The table tennis duo has continued their impressive form in the team events, delivering dominant performances in the opening round.
Uganda registered identical 2–0 victories over South Africa and Malawi, results that comfortably propelled the team into the next round of games scheduled for tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Uganda also posted encouraging results in swimming.
Isaiah Kuc clocked 2:06.93 in the boys’ 200-metre freestyle, finishing third to qualify for the finals.
He also competed in the 50-metre butterfly, placing ninth out of 27 swimmers.
Uganda sent athletes from five federations including basketball 3×3,break dance,aquatics, athletics and table tennis.
These Games are a prelude to the Youth Olympics that Senegal hosts next year for the first time on the African continent.
