National Sports Federations Undergo Safeguarding Training to Strengthen Safe Sport in Uganda.

The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), through its Gender Equality and Diversity (GED) Commission, has commenced a one day Training of Trainers (ToT) for National Sports Federations and Associations leaders aimed at strengthening safeguarding systems across sport in Uganda.
The training forms part of the PlaySafe: Advancing Gender-Responsive Safeguarding in Sports and Schools project, which seeks to create safer, more inclusive and respectful sporting environments for athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and all participants.
The initiative extends beyond National Federations to schools and community outreach activities, including the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
The programme equips participants with practical knowledge and tools to establish safeguarding systems within their federations, including appointing Safeguarding Officers, creating safe reporting mechanisms, implementing codes of conduct, strengthening incident reporting procedures, and integrating safeguarding into competitions, training camps, travel and accommodation.

The training also introduces a structured 30-, 60- and 90-day implementation and monitoring framework that will guide federations in embedding safeguarding into their daily operations, with follow-up support from the UOC-GED Commission.
Through the PlaySafe project, the UOC-GED Commission continues to champion athlete welfare by promoting gender-responsive safeguarding, protecting children and vulnerable groups, strengthening whistleblower protection, and reinforcing integrity in sport through education on anti-doping and the prevention of competition manipulation.
The initiative reflects the Uganda Olympic Committee’s commitment to ensuring that sport remains safe, inclusive and free from abuse, harassment, discrimination and exploitation for everyone.
