Minister Ogwang leads other leaders to Riyadh, visits team Uganda camp in Games Village

The state minister of sports in Uganda Hon. Peter Ogwang was among the over 53 ministers who graced the official opening ceremony for the 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh city, Saudi Arabia.
Hon. Ogwang was representing the First Lady who is also the minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni at the glamorous opening ceremony held at the Jenadriyah Camel Racing Track in Riydah on Friday night.

“I am privileged to have attended such a great opening ceremony on behalf of Mama and the senior minister Hon. Janet Museveni who was invited by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We are bench-marking on how professional sports events are organized” Hon Ogwang spoke.

On Saturday night, he made a courtesy visit to the team Uganda camp in the Games Village at Diriyah Apartment Social Area.
Hon. Ogwang was well received by the president of Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) Dr Donald Rukare and Chef De Mission Hajji Sadik Zaid Nasiwu.
The minister was accompanied by the National Council of Sports (NCS) General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel as well as two members of parliament Hon. Asuman Basalirwa and Hon. Juliet Suubi Kinyamatama.
They freely interacted with the players and team officials at the Games Village, occasionally throwing encouraging messages and caution in equal measure.
“We are here at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh city, Saudi Arabia to have a word with you. Thank you for working hard. Please maintain this because we need medals. We shall continue to support you at all times” The minister who urged them to remained disciplined at all times remarked.
The minister promised more funding for the sports sub-sector, infrastructural development especially the Lugogo Sports Complex and encouraged the athletes to join the state security agencies as the Army, Police and Prisons.
Dr Rukare appreciated the minister and his entourage for the courtesy visit, as he also emphasized total discipline throughout the duration of the games.
“I want to appreciate the minister and his entire entourage for such a courtesy visit. This motivates the athletes as they work hard to secure great performances with medals. I also urge you to keep disciplined at all times in respect for the Islamic rules of Saudi Arabia” Dr Rukare hinted.
Overall team captain Alfred Ojok, already an assured medalist at the Games was full of praise for the leaders.
Ojok promised a good showing at the Games with his message stamped by the Athletes’ representative Shadir Musa Bwogi and Dubai based weightlifter Faruku Figo Kyambadde in the affirmative.
Uganda has a total number of 39 athletes at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Boxing, Athletics, Weightlifting, Table Tennis, Swimming (Acquatics), Para-Powerlifting and Wrestling.
