Swimming still waits for maiden podium place.

Uganda’s aquatic team at the 2026 Commonwealth Games has endured a torrid two days during which all swimmers have failed to make a podium finish at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
On day one, Tendo Kaumi finished 21st/40 in his 50m backstroke, Kirabo Namutebi and Gloria Muzito were 36th/52 and 27th/52 respectively in the 50m butterfly, and Jordan Samula was 33rd/42 in the breaststroke with only the mixed relay team entering the final.
Day two on Saturday started brilliantly with the progression of Tendo Kaumi and Jesse Ssegonzi into the 50m Freestyle and 100m butterfly respective semifinals.
Unfortunately, both fell at that hurdle, as did Gloria Muzito, Kaumi, Ssengonzi and Kirabo Namutebi in the mixed relay final.
But the quest continues this Saturday with heats for Muzito and Tara Naluwoza in the women’s 100m freestyle, while Mukalazi and Samula will seek progression in the men’s 50m breaststroke.

It’s been a tough but very interesting journey for Uganda.
The teams have mostly come in and settled into the hotels/games village.
The athletes look geared and determined to win medals and break records.
Management is doing everything possible to keep them happy especially since we are in foreign countries.
As it is, all the commonwealth games have been in foreign countries but luckily in the Minister’s meeting before the games, a very big motion was moved to ensure that the 2034 is in an African country and hopefully if this works out we may live to see a very different experience.
