BY Kakeeto Gonzaga
Badminton Uganda continued to expand its territory to Pader district through organizing shuttle time and Air badminton workshops.
A 2-days workshop that was held at Archbishop Flynn secondary school had a total number of 20 school sports teachers from different schools in Pader.
Through the 2 days’ workshop, teachers were equipped with the badminton Knowledge both for normal badminton (indoor badminton) and the newly introduced Air badminton (the outdoor badminton).
Pader is the fourth district that Uganda badminton’s governing body has visited to equip teachers with badminton skills.
Rwampara district, Kayunga and Nakaseke are the others that have so far benefited from this project that started last month.
Some schools in Pader had ideas about the sport of badminton though it has not been active and Simon Mugabi the CEO Badminton Uganda says that they want to see that every school in Pader gets Involved in this sport and this will help them to achieve the 75 % that is needed by national council of sports as per the new sports law.
These workshops that started in October this year are aimed at spreading the gospel of badminton and also making sure that teachers acquire badminton skills that they can pass on to their students from their respective schools. Mugabi adds that this will help Badminton Uganda to easily identify talented badminton players across the country.
Nanseera George William the chairperson Uganda secondary schools sports association (USSSA) Pader district is optimistic that more schools in Pader will now be taking part in different schools events where badminton will be played.
Over 120 sports teachers from different schools have so far gained in the ongoing shuttle time and air badminton workshops organized by Badminton Uganda
These workshops will continue to cover Busia district, Iganga and Rukiga district before the end of this year.
Badminton Uganda has successfully concluded it's 2 days shuttle time workshop that has been taking in Pader district at Archbishop Flynn secondary school.
