Game Connect Trials Reveal Talent Amongst Refugees

A Heartwarming performance

More than 100 talented refugee youth from across the country gathered at Mandela national stadium Namboole for the Game Connect athletics trials.
The trials were a reserve for refugees living in Uganda that have been given an opportunity to be part of the Olympic refugee team at next year’s historic fourth summer youth games that will for the first ever be hosted on African soil in Dakar, Senegal.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was well embraced with participants partaking of events like the 3000m,1500m,800m,400m,200m,100m,4x100m relays and the 4x400m relays.
It attracted participants from the refugee settlements of Adjumani,Rwamwanja,Kyangwali and Kampala.
The competition was organized by Game Connect which is a consortium of partners headlined by AVSI foundation under the auspices of the Uganda Olympic Committee with funding from the Olympic Refugee Foundation.
Game connect aims to improve the psychosocial well-being and mental health resilience of young refugees through safe physical activity and sports.
The day-long event attracted a wide range of sports stakeholders including Olympic refugee foundation,Uganda Olympic Committee, National Council of Sports,World Athletics, Uganda Athletics and Game Connect consortium members.
