Badminton extends to Iganga District
By Kakeeto Gonzaga
Badminton Uganda continues to prove the need to spread the gospel of the sport of badminton with the latest visit being in Iganga district.
This was during a two- days badminton shuttle time workshop at Musana vocational high school Iganga district.
The workshop that started on 22nd to 23rd November attracted a team of 23 sports teachers from different schools in Iganga.
Kisambira Umar the Iganga region badminton coordinator says that “Iganga as a district has over 40 schools but badminton was not on the menu of most schools and now after going through this workshop, schools are going to start this sport.”
Being one of the few women that took part in this workshop, St Francis Kigulu girl secondary school’s Nyachwo Sylivia Ranga “vows to go back to her school and introduce badminton so that come next year her school will be in position to take part in all badminton events.”
For the five districts that Badminton Uganda has visited there has been a low turn up when it comes to women in sports, Nyachwo attributes this to the less trust by the public when it comes to trusting women with sports issues thus leading to women not be active in sports especially badminton.
Badminton Uganda started this campaign of touring different districts of Uganda spreading the gospel of badminton and skilling sports teachers and giving out badminton equipments.
Iganga is the 5th district that Badminton Uganda has so far visited.
Some of the covered districts include: Rwampara, Nakaseke, Pader, Kayunga and Iganga district while Rukiga district will be the next to be visited before the Phase 1 on the shuttle time workshop closes on 4th -5th December 2025
Shuttle time workshop that has been happening in Iganga district has today ended.
