Day two of track and field at the EDF Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow failed to yield desired results on a day the team’s head Coach Paul Okello blamed the weather conditions.

Uganda started with the 400m respective gender heats that climaxed with the women Leni Shida and Banura Maureen qualifying to the semi finals.

Unfortunately, the men’s highly billed duo of Eric Okwi and especially Haron Adoli failed with Coach Okello blaming the rain.

“The girls run at around 10am in good conditions, but by the time the men started, the rain had changed the mood” said the Coach.

In the evening session, Uganda expected better but still ended minus a podium finish in the men’s 10,000m finals in which its runners, Samuel Simba Cherop (Personal Best 27:56.68),Dan Kibet and Oscar Chelimo finished 7th,11th and 12th respectively.

Wednesday starts with the men’s one mile first round, with a spot in the final the target for Silas Chemutai and Domenic Krop.

The evening session will feature Halimah Nakaayi in the women’s 800m semi final before the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase final in which Peruth Chemutai will seek to go better than her bronze medal at Birmingham 2022.
