Cricket Uganda’s Water Falls Women’s T20 Elite League is back for its second edition after a two-year hiatus. First played in 2023, the tournament is organized by the Cricket Uganda Office and supported by the women’s coaching staff as part of ongoing efforts to grow and strengthen women’s cricket in the country.

The 2026 edition is scheduled to bowl off on 27th January and will run through to 1st February 2026, with all matches taking place at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Unlike the inaugural edition, which featured foreign players, this year’s tournament brings together Uganda’s top local talent; with experienced players selected from across the country, the competition promises to be intense and closely contested.

Three teams will take centre stage this season: Itanda Kayakers, Karuma Rapids, and Bujjagali Rafters. Notably absent from the lineup are the Sipi Trekkers, champions of the 2023 inaugural edition, who will not be defending their title this year.

Leadership roles across the teams see familiar faces in new positions. Janet Mbabazi, who captained the Sipi Trekkers to the maiden title in 2023, returns as captain of the Itanda Kayakers. Stephanie Nampiina will lead the Bujjagali Rafters, while Proscovia Alako takes charge of the Karuma Rapids.

On the technical front, Ivan Kakande brings his experience to the Karuma Rapids as head coach. The Itanda Kayakers will be guided by Aaron Kusasira, while Jonathan Sebanja completes the coaching trio as the man in charge of the Bujjagali Rafters.

Memories of the league’s first edition remain vivid, particularly the dramatic final in which the Sipi Trekkers narrowly overcame the Itanda Kayakers to lift the title. That thrilling encounter set a high benchmark; one the organizers and teams will be eager to match or surpass this time around.

The action gets underway with Bujjagali Rafters facing Itanda Kayakers, before returning later in the afternoon to take on Karuma Rapids. Matches will bowl off at 10:00 AM in the morning and 2:00 PM in the afternoon throughout the tournament.
The competition format will see each team play the others three times, with the top two teams advancing to the final. The championship match is scheduled for February 1 at 2:00 PM, bringing to a close what is expected to be a week of compelling and competitive cricket.
