Gazelles one win away from a medal for Uganda.

One more win, and the Gazelles will bag a sure medal. This comes after a truly dominant 21-12 performance against Tonga in a playoff last night got them into the semi finals of the 3×3 women’s basketball competition. Using their size advantage in the low post, Jane Asinde and Melissa Akullu got some easy buckets at the hoop, while Jamila Nansikombi and Perus Nyamwenge went to work on the outside with their superior handles, quickness and craftiness. The Ugandan quartet will need that entire skills set and then some, to overcome a much tougher opponents in New Zealand in the semi finals tonight. A win in that game will guarantee the Ugandan girls at least a Silver medal and a shot at Gold, while a loss would mean that they face the loser of the Australia-Jamaica semi final for the Bronze medal.
