Uganda on fire in Angola as Sebatindira, Nakawala storm semifinals
Uganda’s table tennis stars Joseph Sebatindira and Jemima Nakawala have lit up the 4th African Youth Games in Angola, delivering dominant performances that have reshaped the competition and thrust Team Uganda into the continental spotlight.
Sebatindira opened his campaign with a commanding 3–1 victory over a Mauritian player, shaking off a second-set setback before powering through the next two sets.
A day later, he returned to the table with fury, crushing an opponent from Benin 3–0 to top Group A.
With a bye into the knockout stage, he stayed ruthless—sweeping Burundian Dusabe 3–0 in the round of 16, then dismantling Chad’s Putola Tidiane 4–2 to book a semifinal place against a Tunisian opponent.
On the women’s side, Nakawala’s path ignited after walkovers from Chad and Tanzania players that didn’t show up in Angola.
She stepped onto the court for the quarterfinals and delivered a clean 4–0 demolition of Rwanda’s Diane Uwase, marching confidently into the semifinals.
Uganda now stands just two steps away from continental glory as both athletes prepare for the Semifinal showdowns on Friday.
Uganda sent five teams to the Africa Youth Games with participation to come in athletics, aquatics, break dance and basketball 3×3.
