Victoria Pearls get second win at emerging nations trophy, Cricket Cranes Vice Captain to play ILT20
By Grace Kemigisa
The Victoria pearls registered a second win at the ongoing ICC Women’s emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand when the pearls defeated Neighbors Tanzania by 7 wickets in their low scoring encounter that happened at Asian Institute of Technology Ground, Bangkok on Thursday 28th November 2025. Uganda that has had mostly losses had previously beaten PNG by 4 runs to get a first win.
Against Tanzania, Uganda Women won the toss and elected to field first limiting the Tanzania Women to 54 runs all out in 19.5 overs and the pearls chased down the target in 12.3 overs scoring 55 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Compared to the previous games Uganda had played, this time around, the pearls displayed quite a tight and disciplined bowling spell with blowers keeping to the lines being more intent and strategic on how they attack the different batters, preventing any meaningful batting partnerships and most of all picking wickets. Immaculate Nakisuuyi who was named the player of the match picked 2 wickets [2/4], but it was Consy Aweko and Janet Mbabazi’s controlled bowling that took the day. Concy Aweko [1/3] bowling 4 overs picking a wicket with 2 maiden overs, conceding only 3 runs; Janet Mbabazi [1/1] bowling 2 overs picking a wicket with one maiden over, conceding only 1 run.
The bowling display never allowed the Tanzanian side to gain momentum with only Fatuma Kibasu 10(16) getting to double digits.
early boundaries to put Uganda on the right foot. However, Esther Iluko 28(41) was the anchor of run chase as she rotated strike and kept the scorers busy that even when Uganda suffered wickets of the captain Janet Mbabazi 13(14) and Immaculate Nakisuuyi 2(9) in succession; the game was not too far from done. With 11 runs needed from 66 balls, It was supposed to be an easy job for Iluko and Musamali 4(11) fell cheaply leaving IIuko to close out the game with a boundary in the 12.3 over. Uganda scoring 55 runs for the loss of 3 wickets and winning by 7 wickets.
The win is a confidence booster for the team that has had quite a gloomy outing at this particular tourney. Unfortunately, even with the win the team will not progress to the next league but will take lessons, exposure and experience to build on for future events. The Victoria pearls will play their final game on 30th November 2025 against Netherlands.
In other Cricket Uganda News, the Cricket Cranes vice-captain Juma Miyaji has joined the Gulf Giants for ILT20 Season 4. Miyaji becomes the first Ugandan to be selected for the franchise league which is very huge milestone for Ugandan Cricket. Miyaji also becomes the 3 Cricket cranes player to get a chance to play in a franchise league after Alpesh Ramjani and Sumit Varama were selected to play in the ongoing Nepal Premier League; and have all had a chance to feature for their respective teams.
Juma Miyaji’s selection to the ILT20 is supported under the new ILT20–Africa development pathway and he is one of 7 Africans who have been selected for this 4th season. Other Africans include Rwanda’s Martin Akayezu, Kenya’s Francis Mutua, Nigeria’s Peter Aho and others. Miyaji was spotted when he captained his team in the Palo Verde series where he did so well.
In the ILT20 tourney Juma Miyaji will get a chance to rub shoulders with renowed players like Moeen Ali, Liam Dawson, Kyle Myers, Blessing Mzarabani and many others. Miyaji will start as a net bowler and will have to work his way into the squad. The fact that pace bowlers wear out fast, if the likes of Liam Dawson do break down early, Juma Miyagi could have his chance in the side.
Besides making it to the team, if he does also well in the nets, it’s a very big experience for him to go and be in those conversations with the big boys, to be in that environment of the dressing room alone is a win factor for him and Uganda cricket. It can change the landscape of Ugandan cricket especially for the younger players as Miyaji passes on what he has learnt to the others.
The International League T20 is a professional T20 league played in the UAE organized by the Emirates cricket board. It has six franchise teams, and it’s played in a round robin format with playoffs and then the final to see who takes the title.
Gulf Giants, where Miyaji will be attached won the 2023 edition and they will be in the running for the title yet again this season. Miyaji, who is already in Dubai, is expected to be with the team for a month up to the 25th December 2025, however if he is required to stay, he will stay for longer.
Like any elite athletes, Miyaji will be compensated for his time in the league; his other bills will also be catered for by the ILT20 sports management team.
From the Under-19 T20 World Cup to Senior Men’s T20 World Cup, and now the ILT20 Juma Miyaji has become a setter in Cricket.
