UOC/NADO Uganda hosted a RADO zone V board meeting

In a bid to further enhance and sensitize Ugandans about Anti-Doping, the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC)/ National Anti-Doping Agency (NADO) hosted the ANOCA/ RADO Zone V Anti-Doping Conference in conjunction with the Regional Anti-Doping Organization (RADO) a member of the World Anti-Doping Organisation (WADA) from the 4th – 5th of May, 2018 at Protea Marriot Hotel in Entebbe.

The members in attendance included hosts represented by Dr. Christopher Mbowa from Uganda, Mehari Mebrathtu (Eritea), Dr. Akliu Azazh (Ethiopia), Dr. Helmy Seifeldin (Egypt), James Waweru (Kenya), Dr Emmanuel Nsengiyumva (Rwanda), Dr. Ahmed El Gamel (Sudan), Dr Christina Luambano (Tanzania), Dr. Abdi Ibrahim Ahmed (Somalia), Dr. Kipchoge Keino (RADO office) and Japhter Rugut (Kenya).

Also in attendance at the meeting was Mr.  Rodney Swigelaar, the Director World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) in charge of the Africa regional office, the incumbent chairperson of the Africa Zone V RADO Dr. Kipchoge Keino, his vice president and board member, Dr Ahmed Elgamel, and member country representatives as mentioned above as well as Mr. Tom MAY WADA’s Deputy Director in charge of NADO-RADO Relations and M/s. Christine MUGERA the Executive Manager, Africa Zone V RADO who attended the Board meeting to further deliberate on how to improve Anti-doping related issues in the region.

The State Minister for Sports Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi, was the chief guest who noted that “We as Government advocate clean competitions at all times. Winning with natural strength is the way to go and we shall always stick to that. It is unfair to perform excellently under the influence of drugs”

The President of ANOCA Zone V and Uganda Olympic Committee, Mr. William Blick also noted “As a zone, Africa Zone V is against all acts that bring sport into disrupt including doping. Uganda is fully all the Anti-Doping strategies by RADO and WADA” and the chairman of the National Council of Sports Bosco Onyik, also further enlightened on the healthy relations between the UOC and Government as a way of creating harmony to promote sports.

The high profile meeting was then Climaxed with the National Anti-Doping Conference on 6th of May, 2018 at Route 256 in Lugogo that was graced by the Mr. Tom MAY WADA’s Deputy Director in charge of NADO-RADO Relations and M/s. Christine MUGERA the Executive Manager, Africa Zone V RADO and representatives from the UOC Member Federations and Associations.
