Uganda's She Cranes inch closer to first ever Global Gold Medal

Uganda’s She Cranes’ has beaten Zimbabwe 67-54 in the netball Celtic Cup at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
Going into this game, the She Cranes had its work cut out: “win and go closer to glory or lose and hold your calculator”.
The She Cranes’ got off to a good start and took a 19-14 quarter one lead and were 41-26 to the good at half time.
By the end of quarter three, it was a comfortable 55-40 lead that the team increased to stop at 67-54.
“It’s good to put that win in the bucket. We still have one more game to go and hopefully we win that as well. We will be so proud of ourselves in terms of how much work we have put in” said goal shooter Mary Nuba who has been pivotal in all the team has done this far.
Shaffie Nalwanja who became the fourth Ugandan to achieve the feat was named Lady of the Match.
She follows in the footsteps of Shadiah Nasanga (v Namibia), Margaret Bagala (v Northern Ireland) and Mary Nuba who won the accolade in the tense and close 53-51 victory over Scotland.
That victory puts Uganda atop the standings on 12 points, which is three better than both Wales and Scotland in second and third.
Uganda also boasts of a better goal difference of 12 and 20 over Wales and Scotland respectively.
On the final day of the Celtic Cup today(Sunday),Uganda will play Wales in a potential banana skin at 6pm (EAT).
In other games Namibia face Northern Ireland at 3.30pm while hosts Scotland sign out the tournament against Zimbabwe at 8.30pm.
If Uganda wins this championship, it will improve its ranking to sixth which is the cut off for automatic qualification to the 2027 Sydney World Cup.
After the Celtic Cup, focus for the She Cranes will turn to the Africa Cup due in Malawi from 8th to 14th December.
