NCS Moves to Acquire 100 Acres for National Sports Academy Ahead of AFCON 2027

The National Council of Sports (NCS) has taken a major step in strengthening Uganda’s sports infrastructure ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with plans to acquire 100 acres of land in Hoima for a new National Sports Academy.
A delegation led by NCS Chairman Ambrose Tashobya inspected the land at Sir Tito Winyi College, which government intends to purchase from the Bunyoro Kitara Diocese. The site will initially host a CAF-required training field attached to the Hoima City Stadium, one of Uganda’s key facilities for AFCON 2027.
Uganda will co-host the tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
According to Tashobya, the long-term plan is to transform the 100 acres into a fully fledged National Sports Academy.
The proposed complex will feature six additional training pitches, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, a gym, dormitories, classrooms, an administration block, a hostel for visiting teams and, ultimately, a swimming pool.
The NCS Board Members—Moses Anyii Omara, Cecilia Anyakoit, Piloya Evelyn Gloria, Stephen Kiprotich—and a team from the NCS Secretariat accompanied the chairman on the inspection.
Following the land tour, the delegation visited the Hoima City Stadium, where contractor SUMMA showcased the near-completed, state-of-the-art facility.
The officials inspected the VIP and VVIP sections, the multi-screen Venue Operations Centre, Media Tribune, Mixed Zone, the 5-star rated pitch, gym, cafeteria and the modern Hoima City Indoor Arena with its new court and retractable seating.
With works at an advanced stage, the stadium is expected to be officially handed over to the Government of Uganda in the coming weeks, marking a significant milestone in the country’s AFCON 2027 preparations.
