
The Uganda Olympic Committee Gender Equality and Diversity Commission (GED) commemorated International Women’s Day on March 8, 2023, under the theme “Embracing Equity, Diversity, and Women’s Inclusion in Sports.” The event aimed to bring about a collective impact for women and girls’ positive transformation in sports in Uganda.
The day’s activities brought together 50 women and girls’ sports leaders from the Northern, Eastern, and Central regions of Uganda. The participants shared their experiences of overcoming inequality barriers and challenges in sports and discussed tailored solutions for the development of women in sports in Uganda.
The event featured a panel discussion with participants from the greater Northern, Eastern, and Western regions of the country. Break-away sessions were also held to share experiences and find solutions collectively for positive transformation that would bring about a positive impact on women and girls in the sports arena in Uganda. Additionally, team-building sessions featuring games and fun activities were conducted to enhance the participants’ social capital.
The output of the event was enhanced social networks, discussions on sports inequality and barriers, and locally tailored solutions collectively agreed upon for the development of women in sports in Uganda. The event empowered women and girls to participate and excel in sports, breaking down barriers to their success and promoting a gender-equal future in sports in Uganda.
Women and girls from various regions shared their experiences and collectively found solutions to overcome barriers and achieve positive transformation in the sports industry. The outcome of this event benefits society as a whole and promotes gender equality in Uganda’s sports, leading to a more gender-equal future.
