
UOC held an online council meeting on 27th of June 2020 and it was attended by UOC executive board committee, commissions and federation heads. The meeting commenced at 10.15 am with an opening prayer by a member from the Uganda Taekwondo Federation Mr. Simon Komakech. The Secretary General (SG) of the Uganda Olympic Committee conducted the roll call and confirmed quorum with 24 members present.
The Chairperson Mr. William Blick, President of UOC welcomed the members to the first council meeting online. The chair noted that: The UOC concluded a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Next Media a leading media house in Uganda. Next Media will inter alia promote UOC activities on inter alia NBS TV.
The UOC had joined the rest of the Olympic family to celebrate Olympic Day on 23 June 2020. Olympian Halima Nakaayi, Rugby player Michael Wokorach, National Council of Sports, ANOCA President/IOC Member Mustapha graced the online engagement. An online aerobic session was held as well. 4 online meetings had been held on various topics including commercialization of sports,
wellness and health in sports as well as Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) for resumption of sports.
The UOC is in close contact with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and has been providing members with updates from the IOC mainly relation to the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The NOC/UOC was trying to get back to normal functioning. Sports remain inactive awaiting clearance from National Council of Sports.
The Advanced Sports Management Courses are now being held online due to the disruption caused by COVID. The chair thanked the Program Director Mr. George Wagoogo and the team of facilitators.
There was Presentation of proposed team selection policy 2020-2024. Mr. Moses Mwase presented the draft proposed team selection policy 2020-2024. He informed members that the draft policy was a product of Ms. Beatrice Ayikoru’s MEMOS project.
Mr. Mwase walked the members through the contents which includes sections on eligibility, nationality, checklist to national federations, procedure for team selection, team size, dispute resolution, policy amendment and review. Draft Athlete, official’s agreements are also provided. The chair noted that a team selection policy was critical and requested members to provide their input with the next two weeks. He also requested that members provisionally approve the policy.
The Chef de Mission Tokyo 2020 presented her report. A written report had been circulated in advance. The report highlights the following Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, one on one meeting with NOC relations, Press accreditation, COVID – 19 support to qualified athletes, Online engagement with Athletes, Athlete grant for 2020 Tokyo Games, Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022 (B2022), Youth Olympic Games Dakar 22nd October – 9th November 2022, Winter Olympic Games 4th to 20th February 2022, Beijing, Islamic Games Turkey 2022 among others. The meeting was closed at 11.45 am.
