
The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC)/ Commonwealth Games Uganda (CGU) executive committee members and the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) executive board held a productive meeting on January 9, 2023, at UOC offices in Lugogo Kampala to discuss ways to strengthen and harmonize their relationship as central stakeholders in the enhancement of sports in the country.
According to Moses Al Sayeed, the president of the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA), the goal of the meeting with the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) was to establish a harmonious relationship and engagement between the two groups. He believes that as central stakeholders in the enhancement of sports, it is important to empower access to information from various stakeholders, such as the UOC, to promote visibility, advocacy, welfare, and human capacity building. He expresses satisfaction that the USPA’s intentions were well-received and that there were commitments from the UOC to follow up on the USPA’s expectations, such as capacity building trainings, sports tourism, and access to the USPA’s members.
UOC President Dr. Donald Rukare also expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, stating that the UOC is looking forward to continuing the conversation and building a productive relationship with USPA. The UOC executive led by Dr. Rukare discussed several areas where they believe they can work together and looks forward to further collaboration between the UOC and USPA in areas such as capacity building for media and athletes, and amplifying athletes’ profiles.
A detailed technical meeting will be held in the future to further discuss how the UOC and USPA can work together to further the possibility of USPA members becoming specialized in covering specific sports events, in order to promote greater visibility and attract more stakeholders.
The meeting between the UOC/CGU, and USPA was a productive one in which both groups were able to discuss ways to strengthen and harmonize their relationship as central stakeholders in the enhancement of sports in the country.
