
It was a beautiful performance when Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo won gold and bronze in the men’s 10,000m respectively.
Joshua Cheptegei defended his title in Oregon, USA. The gold medalist finished the record race at 27:27.43 defeating Stanley Waithaka of Kenya. Jacob Kiplimo came in third position at 27:27.97 winning a bronze medal for Uganda. Chelimo Oscar took the third place in the Men’s 5,000m race finishing at 13:10.20 seconds.
In total Uganda earned three medals from the world Athletics championships in Oregon. Cheptegei has joined the league of legends of the likes of Haile Gebrselassie, Kenenisa Bekele and Mo Farah who won 10,000m world championships back-to-back.
Tarsis Orogot became the first Ugandan to compete in 200m since 1997 after Davis Kamoga. Peruth Chemutai finished 11th in the 3000m women steeple chase, Winnie Nanyondo made it to the 5000m finals and finished 8th while Halima Nakaayi did not make it to the finals.
