Team Uganda scoped 5 medals at the 3rd edition of the African Youth Games 2018

Team Uganda participated in the 3rd edition of the African Youth Games with 32 athletes and 14 officials that took place from the 18th – 28th July 2018 in Algiers. The team comprised of 6 sports disciplines; 5 individual sports and 1 team sport. In addition to this, Government officials from Ministry of Education and Sports that included the State minister for Sports Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi and National Council of Sports Ag. Secretary General Dr. Bernard Ogwel also attended the games.  Team Uganda’s performance was generally good were we managed to scoop 5 medals i.e 3 silver and 2 bronze medals as broken down below;

  BADMINTON
2. Mr. Kasirye Brian Singles Won a Silver medal after losing 1-2 to Bongout from Mauritius
  WEIGHTLIFTING
2. Mr. Lutaaya Hamdan. S 56kgs Ranked 6th out of 9 with a new PB of Snatch 58KG & Clean & Jerk 77KG with a total of 135KG and Qualified for YOG.
  HANDBALL Egypt 36 – 22 Uganda

Algeria 36 – 25 Uganda

Uganda 28 – 29 Angola

 

Team Uganda finished in the 6th position overall.
