The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) celebrated its Olympic Day at the Police Children’s School in Kibuli on the 25th of June 2018. The UOC in collaboration with the French Embassy and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) took sports and a fun filled day to one of the KCCA schools in Kibuli.
The different sporting federations such as Football, Taekwondo, Archery, Hockey, Netball, Volleyball, Boxing, Athletics and Cycling took the games to the young people in an event that started from 9am to 12pm. The Olympic committee also had dissemination of Olympic Values Education Programme through one of its training beneficiaries Kio Living on Charity Foundation, a charity that deals with street children using sport as a tool for restoration of hope and social transformation.
The highlight of the day was the donation of an All-weather surface court that will harbor over five Olympic sports like Volleyball, Netball, Handball, Basketball among others. This donation from the French embassy and the UOC is the first in a series of donations yet to come to the other schools in the subsequent Olympic day celebrations. The Olympian association also graced the occasion as they shared their experiences with the young people and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. The UOC remains committed to involving the former athletes in its initiatives.
