The Commonwealth Games Association Uganda hosted from the different regions of the country hosted 32 schools on the 9th April 2022 in a zoom meeting to aid in the promotion of the Olympic values among the schools of Uganda through sport.
The initiative aims at promoting the values of Equality, Humanity and destiny through sport and community activities. The project will encourage students to start Commonwealth Sports School Spirit Clubs, which will be the student’s platform of sharing values, and promoting them within their communities, nurturing and developing outstanding talents from the respective schools with the help of CGAU member federations/associations.
The training involved presentations from the UOC secretariat about the Commonwealth Games Federation, values of the CW, the previous appearances of Uganda at the Commonwealth and the CGAU executive members were introduced to the school patrons. The school patrons were briefed on the role of the schools, the CGAU in the project and how the selection of the schools was made.
The patrons were assured that the initiative shall have an aspect of identifying potential talents and sports men who will be referred to the mother federations so that their skills are developed.
Schools were also given a sample of activities they can engage in like community traditional games in additional to the sports they will be engaging in. Further engagements will also be made by the CGAU through days like school sports days, Commonwealth Day cerebrations, Queens Baton relay engagements.
A monthly evaluation manual and a bio-data form was presented to the school patrons which will be used to record the schools’ monthly activities and the data of the students engaging in the activities
