The Association of the National Olympic Committees of Africa, whose Executive Committee met from the 7th to the 9th of March 2020 in Kampala, reaffirmed its unconditional support for the IOC and its President, Thomas Bach OLY, in light of the recent events surrounding the effective holding of the Summer Olympic Games of Tokyo, from the 24th of July to the 9th of August 2020, as a result of the Corona Virus crisis that is shaking the entire planet.
The members salute the resolutions issued as a result of the work of the Executive Commission of the International Olympic Committee, held in Lausanne Switzerland, and join their president when he declared, “The IOC remains fully committed to the success of the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020.”
They welcomed with satisfaction the establishment, under its auspices, of a Task Force including the IOC, the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020, the city of Tokyo, the Japanese Government and the World Health Organization (WHO) in the search for a “fair solution” with the International Federations in order to guarantee an effective participation of the athletes in the Games through qualifications.
These signals are reassuring for the Olympic Movement in its entirety in the face of the sanitary crisis of the Covid 19 epidemic and these factual arguments comfort us in a perspective of serenity regarding the holding of the Olympic Games of Tokyo2020. In light of all of the above, the Association of the National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) expresses all of its gratitude for the commitment of the IOC during these delicate moments and confirms unanimously that it registers in the wake of the essential values that animate the Olympic Movement, mainly through its solidarity and spirit of responsibility.
As such, ANOCA confirms the full availability of its members to work tirelessly alongside the IOC for the benefit and interest of the athletes and the Olympic Games in accordance to the precepts that govern its functioning.
